The B-3 Rush

Your face turns flush and your skin starts to itch. Your heart begins to beat faster. The itching may be felt all across your face and extend down your arms to your fingertips.

What is going on? If you’re like me you forgot what you learned in school and had to call ask-a-nurse to be reminded. You certainly won’t get this from drinking cho yung green tea.

You may have taken a little too much niacin, or vitamin B-3. It’s ok, you’ll be fine, it will probably wear off in about half an hour.

But it can really make you scared if you don’t know what is going on.

What happened? I took a niacin supplement plus brewer’s yeast which itself contains lots of niacin. That was nine years ago but I still remember it like yesterday. It is certainly a feeling that will make you spit out any therabreath mouthwash – which is an excellent product. So, try not to waste it that way!  :)

Niacin, also known as nicotinic acid is very necessary for your body. Niacin is needed at the cellular level. It is a very important nutrient in cellular processes that create the ultimate energy currency of your body – ATP or Adenosine Triphosphate.

A deficiency in niacin can lead to pellagra, which has a number of manifestations. An inflamed tongue and irritated gastric track and colon as well as depression and hard rough skin are just some of the symptoms of this deficiency disease.

Anxiety and hallucinations are also possible symptoms of pellagra. Wide spread pellagra is no longer seen in the United States, though individual cases can still occur.

Dermatitis, dementia and diarrhea are considered the 3 Ds or the classic symptoms of pellagra.

Diets rich in meats, eggs and milk provide adequate amounts of niacin to the body. Alcoholics and diabetics are at greater risk for being deficient in niacin.

If you wan’t healthy teeth, a proper diet is very important. Ask the folks who peddle kardashian teeth whitening products.  They have it cosmetically, but what about from a health standpoint?

Niacin is a vitamin, it is necessary to the body for cellular processes.

Oral supplementation can reverse the less severe cases of deficiency. In severe cases there may be permanent consequences.

So the next time your face flushes and you get an itching burning sensation down to your fingertips, take a moment to reflect before you panic. Did you have too much niacin?

An Ocean Of Evidence That We Must Go Green

September 1st, 2010
Comments Off

Do you ponder about our world’s oceans, vegetation and animals? Obviously you do, and you’re not by yourself. Alarmed inhabitants all over agree we now have an environmental mess of historic proportions on our hands with the Gulf of Mexico. You might have heard word how the oil leak appears to be more vast than previously thought. Purdue University engineering professor Steve Wereley, after reviewing BP’s congressionally mandated live video feed within the leak, estimates that as much as 100,000 barrels of oil are leaking from the base of the sea each day. This conclusion adds to a laundry list of shocking news around the worldwide environmental and economic front in recent times and it can be overwhelming and down right saddening to think about.

So what can we achieve to assist? Most of us possess jobs and families we must pay attention to. It’s not like we can presently drop the lot and roll down to the gulf to assist with cleanup. Furthermore, many people wouldn’t have the first idea of how to aid with an oil spill clean up effort or possess the means to produce a huge impact. Thus how must we be part of the solution?

We now have to quit thinking so large, and start small. It truly is little options like peddling our bike to the office and recycling our aluminum cans that’s what we ought to achieve to help. This goes for companies as well, large stores such as Whole Foods pass out recycled custom bags made of 85% recycled plastic water bottles, more businesses must learn from this example. For far too long our culture has regarded matters such as recycling as “optional” and with absolute ignorance. We’ve got an especially limited memory as a society. Reported by Anne Casselman who wrote a piece in regards to the Top 10 Major Oil Spills in The past at PopularMechanics.com, the Exxon Valdez spill in 1989 does not even make the list. Oil spills continue happening all through the earth repeatedly and most of us act like this is a uncommon incident but it’s not.

The truth is that oil will continue to be sucked out so long as there is demand for it. Our culture’s thoughts about renewable energy and the eco movement requires a direct shift. However like I said, we have to start small and simple! For example, an additional large environmental problem is the quantity of plastic that is getting used in this world, and this plastic is ending up within our oceans just like the oil. You’ll be startled if this is your first time learning about The immense Pacific Garbage Patch, and as Oprah Winfrey mentioned last year, “it is estimated to be double the size of Texas.” Although this gigantic rubbish dump is composed of all sorts of floating garbage and debris, plastic is the largest trouble as it never fully decomposes. So not only do we have oil spills into our oceans, we also have plastic and waste spills. Reported by the Container Recycling Institute, 51.9 billion beverage bottles have been consumed so far this year, as of late May. Environmentally friendly stainless steel water bottles are an ideal case in point of the sort of straightforward adjustments we can make in our individual behavior and lifestyles to cut down on the massive plastic bottle trash. Imagine the impact that can be made when the common person decides to utilize a single stainless steel water bottle rather then a dozen plastic bottles, just how much of a change can that create alone? In the exact same way, we can prevent environmental catastrophes by means of not using fuel guzzling inefficient vehicles as well as walking or taking public transport in its place, we as a people must influence demand by way of our consumer decisions.

We all care deeply concerning the health of our one and only world, and at the moment we ought to refocus our disgust for the tragedy in the Gulf into simple action and trivial changes in our life style. Whether it’s recycling your litter, hauling a few eco friendly reusable shopping bags with you to the store or merely making your voice heard when you witness other people making harmful choices. Do not let the most recent headlines get you down, create a dream for a fit world and do the right thing, go green and be an eco friendly ambassador in your community, little modifications will have a vast effect on Mother Earth.

Tony Hayward Not Resigning, But BP Send Him To Siberia

September 1st, 2010
Comments Off

Tony Hayward was expected to resign Monday after a meeting in London to choose his fate. He’ll work for BP in Russia instead, managing his company’s role in TNK-BP, a joint venture considered one of BP’s best projects . Hayward may appear to be escaping culpability for leading a wreck less company that caused the oil spill within the Gulf of Mexico 2010, and then botching the oil spill response. But before he starts his new job, some senators want to ask him about a BP-Libya oil deal that stipulated the release of a convicted terrorist. Post resource – Tony Hayward steps down to run TNK-BP Russian oil venture by Personal Money Store.

Tony Hayward’s Russian gig has an ironic twist

Tony Hayward will step down as BPs CEO in October. His likely replacement is Robert Dudley, according to the Associated Press. Hayward was replaced by Dudley as BP’s point man for the oil spill response. The board of BP’s Russian venture TNK-BP now has a seat for Hayward. In an ironic twist, Dudley led TNK-BP until he got on someone’s bad side and had to leave Russia in 2008.

Will Hayward fare better at TK-BP than Dudley?

BP thinks more of Tony Hayward than most American’s and American politicians, if his new role swimming with Russian oil sharks is any indication. The Washington Post reports that analysts consider the TNK-BP venture one of BP’s crown jewels, accounting for a quarter of BP production. But it is a problematic one, as proven by Robert Dudley, Hayward’s likely successor as BP CEO. After getting into a dispute with Russian shareholders, Dudley was forced to leave the country.

Did Hayward negotiate to release a terrorist in exchange for oil?

Tony Hayward may be stepping down, but that won’t stop United States of America Senators Bob Menendez and Kirsten Gillibrand from trying to haul him before Congress. The New York Observer reports the senators will be holding a July 29 hearing to the release of the Lockerbie bomber and told the press they want to hear from Hayward. The British government has been pressured for weeks by the two senators to start investigating whether a BP-Libya oil deal is related to the release of Lockerbie bomber Abdul Baset al-Megrahi. Menendez said he believed Hayward was in the middle of negotiations with the Libyans during the oil deal.

What Can We All Do In The Summer?

August 31st, 2010
Comments Off

So far we are having a great summer. But you don’t want to bet against English weather as we all know. People in the UK die for hot weather hence most people are always going abroad to enjoy milder and sunnier weather. We are all in the look out for fun activities as soon as we get milder and sunnier weather. Some enjoy going for a swim in the local swimming pools or the beach. Some enjoy have bbq party at the back of their garden. Season for cricket also starts in the summer in UK, so a lot of people enjoy watching and playing cricket over the weekend.

As you can see above there are so many things to do and so little time. I will be concentrating on the activities done by people in the UK in the summer. There has been a research in the past showing that more people join the gym for swimming in the summer than the winter. Swimming is good because while you are having fun in the pool you are also working your body out.

Another cool research shows that summer time is the biggest spending time for the parents. Kids are always looking at the Argos book to find out what’s new in the summer toys range. Trampolines and climbing frames are being sold left, right and centre in the UK. You will see trampoline or other outdoor product in the back garden of most households these days. The good thing of having a outdoor toy in your back garden is that when you are having a bbq party or just relaxing in the garden you can keep an eye on your kids other than having to worry about where they are and what they are doing.

Many people have started getting above ground pools in their property nowadays so they don’t have to visit the gym everyday. Yes you do require swimming pool equipments such as pool covers and swimming pool chemicals, but it’s worth it.

So swim to stay fit and healthy this summer.

What About Those Spies In New York?

August 29th, 2010
Comments Off

I thought it was quite amazing yesterday when I first heard about the Russian spy ring in the New England area.  The media has chosen to focus on the youngest and perhaps most alluring of the spies: the 28 Year-old Russian woman who was once married to an Englishman.

I guess the first question that comes to mind is why on Earth would the Russians still want to spy on us?  What is to be gained?  Perhaps the most they can hope for is some intelligence that can help them in making economic deals with the US.

Perhaps even more interesting is the complete lack of actual teeth behind the maximum punishment.  It seems that in the old days, spying would bring with it a lifetime sentence or even death (in war time).  Yet, the most any of these individuals will get is 5 years and a heroes welcome back in Russia when they get out.

I thought it was an interesting note that the spy ring master has escaped from Cyprus. He just ‘disappeared’.  Of course, it is just a coincidence that the government of Cyprus is very communist leaning.  That of course, would have nothing to do with the spy ring master’s escape.

I thought it was even more interesting to hear an interview from a restaurant owner in Cambridge.  This is the area that many of the spies frequented.  The Kennedy School of government is there and many present and future high profile individuals visit this area.

In a sense, it is the perfect place for an information gathering spy to hang out! Of course, the young spy was burdened with technological troubles transmitting her weekly reports from her computer. She allegedly was excited when they supplied her with a Mac Notebook.  It was commented that this is the computer of choice for spies.

Speaking of good looking spies – how do you think she kept her slender figure.  Maybe she was drinking Cho Yung Tea.

High level spies also need good oral health. That they can get from reading a therabreath review or an oramd review! They need to be at their best, afterall.

Anyway, I have digressed. The people of the aforementioned town were actually excited to think there were spies in their midst. They were not outraged one bit.  They thought it was rather romantic.

Crazy, isn’t it?
