A Wild Ride: Impulse-Buying A Classic Mustang
I really haven’t so much gotten to write on this site half as much as I had expected, on account of the fact that I’ve been running around town with my Dad manage his wild & crazy midlife crisis. Well, I guess it isn’t as crazy as it could possibly be. Basically how he showed up was he got all done up like fonzie, and storm over to my house and casually inform me, in his jazziest dialect: “Get in, boy, you and I are going out looking for some classic Mustang sales. You heard that right, son, I’m all set to get one of my own.”
Before I knew what was happening he & I were on our way to some of those wild vintage car places that I’m pretty much certain the mob owns and operates, and I can’t believe it when this wild old guy wrote a check on the spot, for an unnaturally well-preserved classic mustang. It really is an intense item. It sounded amazing too.
I want to point out that I wrote about that sound in the past tense. It sounded amazing right up to the point that it became silent. Dad tells me that it’s a really quick problem and that all he requires is the right part. I’m thinking, it is not as straightforward to pick up 1968 Mustang parts as it was like three decades years ago, but Dad informs me there’s a really sizable aftermarket for them to this day. Apparently the the easiest way to find parts for classic Mustangs is through internet auctions, since you can find them refurbished and sometimes better than new. They’re not necessarily a steal, however… Come on, man, we’re talking about 30-year-old automobile parts.
Could be worse, though… Imagine if he would’ve got himself a toupee.
