How our frame of mind can affect our self confidence.

February 5th, 2010

Life is not all plain sailing. Indeed, hardship, trials and tribulations are part and parcel of our lives. Encountering problems is not a bad thing, what matters is the way we deal with it. A positive frame of mind is vital for so many reasons. Positive thinking is proven to improve performance in productivity and quality. We are typically more confident and do better if we are feeling positive and well.

There are biological examples of this. A positive frame of mind is due to enhanced amounts of neuro transmitters such as serotonin that regulate the efficiency abilities of the mind. The knock results of a positive frame of mind also include enhanced wellbeing not only enhanced mental health but better in the physical sense aswell. This is because of the boost to the immune system that a positive frame of mind can give you.

The opposite is also true, if we are depressed we are a lot more liable to contracting other diseases and mental health issues. Our interaction with other people deteriorate, we begin to think irrationally and our confidents can drop. In short this is a frame of mind that is best to avoid at all costs. Feeling depressed ever so often is not unusual but how we decide to face an issue comes from our state of mind.

A positive mental attitude is also about giving you a can do attitude. Individuals who think positively are more likely to see challenges as opposed to issues or opportunities as opposed to difficulties. For instance, entrepreneurs who are successful usually are because they are able to spot opportunities for progress in a marketplace which others only see troubles in. The positive mental attitude of a successful person means that opportunity becomes a reality; because they also have the drive and motivation to ensure success and make their vision come true. So as you can see there is much to be gained from a positive mental attitude. The issue for many people is in developing one in the first place.

Developing a positive frame of mind is not some new aged trend. For ages religious men and scholars alike searched for and created approaches to harness an inner tranquility. While this may have begun to make mankind closer to god the essence of this idea is just as relevant nowadays. That a positive frame of mind makes us closer to the divine while a negative frame of mind can only lead us in to ways of being which are a detriment to our lives. Monks realised this long ago which is why they devote themselves to a life of abstinence and mental and spiritual fulfilment.

One of the easiest ways to determine your frame of mind is to think of how you are with other people. A good way to do this is to picture how you behave towards people you do not know. Are you confident and open to meeting and talking with people? Or are you insular and shy. Believe it or not one of the best ways to overcome a negative frame of mind is to change your frame of mind towards the world around you and that means the people in it too. If you are generally uneasy around other people then try this experiment.

One night force yourself to strike up a conversation at random in a public place. Do not worry about how you look or appear or what you discuss. A reference about the weather or anything will do. Just try it and note how you feel afterwards.

You see, the way you are with other people will influence the opportunities you get offered. Consider it like this who is the most likely to get a job between two people of equal ability and experience except for one difference, One is uptight and uncomforable with other people and the other is laid back and comfortable with other people. If I was the boss I know which one I would pick for the Job.

Do you think the way you are is affecting your life and opportunities? If so you must get Quentin’s free video on Overcoming social anxiety.

Motivation Is The Key To Success For Stay At Home Moms

January 22nd, 2010
Comments Off

In life we are taught to set goals and make plans to accomplish them. However we are not taught to set large goals that to some would be out of reach and unreasonable. We are told that our goals much be within reach and obtainable with a little effort. Unfortunately it is those goals that cause us to loose focus and fall behind. They become almost impossible to achieve because we have no real desire to see them through. We know they can be obtained and with just a little effort so why do today what you can put off until tomorrow.

With small easily obtainable goals the number one killer of all dreams sets in. We may not want it to and we may try and fight it off but because we have no real attraction to our goals we end up loosing the battle. That killer of dreams is called procrastination. It is what causes us to not finish our daily task and to start a project and then move on. But that is what happens when we set goals that are simple and some what mundane. The goals themselves are what is actually killing our motivation and causing us to fall behind on what we need to do.

Fortunately there is a way around it and it is a way that is much more exciting. It will demand our attention and we will gladly give it. This particular way is to set goals above the norm and beyond what some would say are reasonable. We do not have to settle for what some book teaches as a worthy goal or what others think is obtainable and worthy. Stay at home moms can and should set their goals high. They need to be exactly what we want and not what we are settling for because it is easier. Napoleon Hill made a very true statement, “Dream big dreams; Only big dreams have the power to move men’s souls”. It is our big dreams that have the power to motivate and push us into doing things we never thought we were capable of.

Of course having large goals alone will not push us to accomplishment. We must also have a standard of achievement that tells us we are actually accomplish what we have dreamed about. That standard is made up of many smaller goals, each one driving us closer to our main objective. If our goal is to have a successful Legitimate Home Based Business or to see our small business ideas come to life we need to have a set of smaller goals that will get us to that point. These smaller goals are those things that need to be done. By accomplishing theses goals even if it is one at a time we gain a stronger sense of motivation. We can see and measure our progress and that progress motivates us to work a little harder and to push forward beyond what we thought we could do. In time we start to see our big dreams and goals are becoming a reality and we are getting what we really want. This type of motivation can push a stay at home mom or anyone for that matter to see success and to get what they really do want out of life. Motivation can be difficult but with proper planning it is not impossible.

Why is Goal Setting Common in the Internet Marketing Arena

December 7th, 2009
Comments Off

A life goal list can be quite varied. Some people want to improve their health through dietary modifications and exercise routines. Other people want to manage their time better and have freer schedules. Perhaps it’s an unfulfilling job or a dissatisfying relationship that’s bringing an individual down. A simple “want” is different than a goal. It is not enough to desire change, for without a plan of action, little can realistically be accomplished. Here is a quick guide to understanding how to set goals — not just any goals, but goals you can achieve.

It is not enough to learn how to set goals: you must learn to set SMART goals, and to do so you just need to follow some guidelines. First, you must select a goal that is Specific. Instead of saying, “I want a new job,” you can say, “I want to work as a field reporter at WBTV.” Secondly, you need a goal that is Measurable, so you will know when success has been reached. You can choose your measurement by quantity, quality, cost, etc. Thirdly, your goals need to be Achievable. Setting realistic goals is the only way to find happiness. The fourth criterion is about Relevance; the goal must mean something to you and have an emotional tie for you, otherwise you will find motivation difficult. You also want to make sure you have the right resources. For example, you can’t say you want to be a WBTV reporter if you have no college experience. (Your first goal must be to get that experience.) Lastly, your goal must be Timed. With a start date and an end date, you will find added motivation.

Once you learn how to set goals, the trick is to create an organized life goal list. For instance, your overall goal may be to clean your room — which, over time, has become a disaster area. On your list, it doesn’t make sense for you to “put away laundry” before you “pick up laundry off the floor and wash it.” You won’t be able to “dust the dresser” until you have “thrown out paperwork on dresser” and “put away clothes sitting on dresser.” If your list is organized, you will be better able to meet all your short term goals, which will eventually lead you to your long term goal of having a clean bedroom.

A person who knows how to set goals also knows that one of the most satisfying parts of the process is recording progress. After creating a written goals list of tasks, he or she can then check off any tasks that have been completed to physically see the success happening. The more check marks are made, the more an individual will feel motivated to keep going and complete the whole list. This personal goal list will also help keep an individual on track. It’s easy to feel lost and wonder, “What now?” And it’s equally easy to feel impatient and wonder, “Why should I even bother finishing?” With a list, the answers are clear.

Tips for Selling Art Online

November 21st, 2009
Comments Off

There are many things that are the same as selling offline. But many are different. Unlike the offline world, a potential buyer does not get to see your work in person. They do not see you in person. But that doesnt mean that selling art online is harder. In some ways it is easier. This is a very broad subject to cover in one sitting. But if you remember to use the following tips you are guaranteed a leg up.

Be completely honest about the work that you are presenting for online sales. An art purchase is a very emotional buy. It is almost at the same level as buying a house or a car. Of course the potential buyer has to feel an emotional attachment to the piece if they are going to purchase it this is not the place to create that. If a buyer is emotionally attached enough to the piece to buy it and then receives something that was not exactly as expected- your buyer will be unhappy and probably ask for their money back. If not I guarantee they will not be buying any additional art pieces from you. You cant risk this because someone who collects art is just that a collector. Future purchases are highly probable. Make sure they know exactly what to expect. Be honest about condition, provenance, and artist background.

Be completely descriptive about your art for sale. Make sure that you have stated all of the important information about the piece. Give the art buyer as much information as possible about the piece. This will reduce the amount of questions and help qualify the potential buyer. These small but important facts will do a lot of the selling for you. Make sure to include price, medium, size, type of paper canvas, framed unframed, subject matter, and date. Don’t forget to include your motivation for choosing this subject matter, what it means to you, challenges when working on your art, and why you have chosen to express these ideas in this manner. This is where you create an emotional attachment. An art buyer becomes attached as they begin to feel they understand the piece and the artist behind it.

Make sure that you are able to accept credit cards for the purchase. If a potential art buyer has to take the time log off their computer, pick up the phone, write a check, and then reach for an envelope you reduce your chances of finalizing the sale. Although they may still want the piece it is not hard for consumers to procrastinate as other things in their life need to be tended to also. The sale is lost. It is in your best interest to make the sale as easy as possible. The only job the art buyer should complete is deciding which piece they cannot live with out. Believe me that is hard enough. Once they have decided on the purchase they must be allowed to pay for it immediately. If you do not know how to do this you can easily accept credit cards through Paypal it is free to sign up.

Dont forget to include all documentation that goes with the purchased piece. Art documents have value and they also increase the value of the piece. On some level the buyer will view them as valuable as the piece itself. These papers will be passed on with the piece and guarded the same as their insurance policies and bank statements. If possible be sure to include an artist statement, artist bio, press releases, promotional materials for you as an artist (post cards or brochures), history of the piece, and an appraisal statement for starters. Provide these to your customers in a folder so that they can easily be kept together and nicely displayed. Be sure to include contact information perhaps in the form of several business cards.

Retain the contact information of the buyer so that you may contact them again in the future. If the buyer liked you once, there are strong chances that they will buy from you again.
